Mazingira Gardening offers full-scope gardening/landscaping services that include consultation,

design, installation, and maintenance.  We specialize in practical, economical, eco-friendly and

high-quality services.  Our goal is to create beautiful, environmentally conscious spaces that

meet your needs while increasing your home’s value.  To your project, Mazingira’s owner/

operator brings a life long relationship with plants, combined with strong academic and

professional experience.  Free consultations are available.

Consultation/Design/Install

Mazingira Gardening design and installation services bring your vision to life.  But we also offer

consultation services.  Don’t need a new design but are wondering what new plants would best

complement your current garden?  Looking for additional plants or features to enhance your

yard?  One-time or ongoing consultations are available. 

We can design any style of landscape or garden.  However, Mazingira emphasizes:

• Lawn reduction, replacement or revitalization.

· Lawn replacement can include drought tolerant grass alternatives,

California native ground covers, wildflower meadows or

fountain or bunch grasses.

• Creation of  “Bay-friendly” spaces which feature the use of native and/or Mediterranean

low-maintenance, low-water plants that are regionally appropriate, environmentally

conscious and non-resource heavy which means easier on your pocketbook.

• Vegetable and herb gardens

· Planting of vegetable and herb gardens in small urban or suburban

areas to provide a fun and easy way to save money through

growing your own food.

· Mazingira’s vegetable gardens are organic and veganic.

• Designing gardens that attract beneficial insects and wildlife.

• Install Low-water irrigation plans including drip systems.

Mazingira can assist with a new design to revitalize or restore your yard or provide ideas for

additions to enhance your garden or landscape.

The Design Process

The process begins with a phone conversation to discuss your ideas and goals for your project.

Next, an onsite visit is scheduled to further gauge your needs and interests, time frame, and

your budget.  At this time we visually assess your space and site conditions such as elevation,

exposure, soil type and pre-existing plants and features.  Additionally, photos and

measurements are taken.  We follow up by providing a written up plan for the design, which

contains an estimate.  Following your approval, a contract is signed and a deposit is required to

begin the design work.  The design process takes 2-4 weeks.  Then a hand drawn plan and a

plant schedule are presented to you for review and feedback.  Your feedback is taken into

consideration and a finalized plan is completed. 

Mazingira can then install this plan using eco-friendly techniques.  We can also install designs

done by others.  Whether or not you use Mazingira to install your design plan, we are always

available for ongoing maintenance.

Maintenance

Mazingira will set up a maintenance plan to ensure ongoing plant health and a thriving garden. 

We aim to meet your convenience and can accommodate almost any schedule.  Ongoing

consultations are also available.   Services include:

• Pruning, dead heading, trimming and ensuring plant health (analysis and treatment).

• Soil amendment and fertilizing using organic and natural fertilizers.

• Eco-friendly, natural pest control.

• Irrigation repair, maintenance and modification.

• Clean up:  mowing, weeding, raking, sweeping, hosing off decks.

Mazingira also considers the environment in our maintenance services.  We use push lawn

mowers and other hand tools.  No blowers or other gas-guzzling equipment is used.
